Shadowspec SU8 High Wind Cantilever Umbrellas

Lilianfels Resort and Spa is a 5-star luxury hotel located in the Blue Mountains, on the escarpment in Katoomba , a 90 minute drive west of Sydney.

With sweeping views of the Jamison Valley, and only a few minute’s walk to the Three Sisters at Echo Point and world-class bushwalking, Lilianfels is perfect for that luxury escape.

Being situated on the escarpment, means that it can become quite windy at times so when the decision was made to upgrade the shade umbrellas around the outdoor pool area, our high-wind SU8 cantilever umbrellas from Shadowspec where the sensible choice. These umbrellas have been wind tunnel tested to 90 kmh.

Cantilever Umbrella – Rotating SU7

Today we installed another rotating cantilever umbrella, the SU7 made by Shadowspec. The customer chose the heavy duty portable umbrella base with wheels so he could manoeuvre it to where he wanted the shade.

The cantilever umbrella has a particular advantage around a swimming pool and spa as you can have the shade while in the water as well.

Firstly though, we had to remove the old umbrella that had all but rusted through. All of our umbrellas are made with marine grade aluminium except the base plate, making them more suited around a saltwater pool.

Turramurra (Aboriginal word for High Hill) has some lovely old Federation properties and is one of the more sort after areas in Sydney’s Upper North Shore. This property had an extensive renovation and extension but the character of the older building remains.

So after a busy day I grabbed a large coffee from an excellent cafe I found- ‘Replay Espresso’ on William St, before jumping on the Pacific Highway for the long haul home.

Pool fencing & large properties

Today we fenced a pool in the Central Tablelands with our temporary pool fencing. We enjoy driving west through places like Bathurst and Orange as it is less hectic than bigger cities and some of the countryside is just wonderful.

This customer has moved from Sydney and has two young children and there was no fencing at all around the pool.

This property is more than 5 acres in size and the pool was built before June 30 2010 and therefore qualifies for the exemption to fence the pool.

Obviously with two young children, safety is more important.

Some pool owners are of the opinion that an exemption applies for the life of their pool. This is not correct.

Some exemptions remain allowing retention of existing child-safe/child-resistant doors for large properties more than 5 acres with residence separation only.

To retain the exemption that was available to the pool at the time of construction requires that any pool barriers/means of access, continue to comply with the standard applicable at the time of their installation.

These exemptions primarily relate to the use of child-safe/child-resistant doors as a pool barrier which the current standards do not allow.

Exempt barrier no longer applies and is removed where access to a pool or pool barrier is substantially altered or rebuilt, not properly maintained or the pool is fenced voluntarily and must then comply with the standard current at the time of the alteration.

As always, it is better to be safe than sorry and you should check with your local Council if you are unsure about the safety of your pool.

Pool fencing & waterfront properties

Today we fenced a pool in Cronulla with our temporary pool fencing.

The customer was told by Sutherland Shire Council that immediate action was required as their pool was not legal.

They are not sure yet whether or not they will keep the pool so a temporary pool fence was the best option.

Allot of waterfront property owners are surprised when they are told their pool no longer complies and some of these pools have been in place for decades.

So this is the way it stands now. Up until 30th June 2010 it was possible to gain an exemption to the swimming pool barrier requirements for waterfront properties.

Shade Umbrella Parkes – Central West NSW

Today we traveled to the inland port of Parkes in the Central West of NSW.

One of our customers that had used our temporary pool fencing system twice before had a new pool installed and wanted some shade that was able to be moved with ease throughout different times of the day.

They chose the Eclipse 4m in Natural and, as you can see from the photos, it blends in well with the surroundings.

This umbrella rotates 360 degrees and also tilts, making it very versatile around the swimming pool. The placement chosen by the customer in this instance allows them to also have shade over the grassed area quickly and easily by simply rotating the whole umbrella, which can be done while it is in the open position. As this property is on a hill and can become quite windy, they also purchased stabilizer bars which are easily attached, giving the umbrella even more stability if the wind speed should pick up.

Set high in the town of Parkes this property, which overlooks the airport and the surrounding countryside, is a picture in itself.

I was fortunate enough to go for a fly in a Microlight open cockpit aircraft (Trike) around Parkes. It was early in the morning and the air was still and smooth.

For anyone who has not been up in one of these aircraft, I highly recommend it.

Cantilever Umbrella – Orange, NSW

Today we installed another cantilever umbrella just outside Orange NSW. Orange is a beautiful part of  New South Wales, especially this time of the year, and this particular property was a large working vineyard for many years in the Orange Wine Country.

The new owners are now running livestock and have young children and a pool. And as with any time you have young ‘uns around, pool safety is of course of paramount concern. Although this region can be cool in the winter months, like most of Australia, the harsh afternoon sun in the hotter months can be just too much. Which is why they choose a rotating cantilever umbrella in Natural (colour). This is a terrific neutral colour that doesn’t overpower the native surroundings.

Our task today was to provide shade to both the pool and the deck chairs next to it. And after spending a day in the sun watching us putting the Cantilever Umbrella in, the client experienced first hand how great it is to have shade on hand!

And, when the install was completed, we are very pleased to say that the client is extremely happy with the umbrella and the installation and can now relax in the shade with the kids in the pool area after a hard day’s work.
